What is the most prevalent type of skin cancer?

Basal cell carcinoma is indeed the most prevalent type of skin cancer. It arises from the basal cells, which are located in the lower part of the epidermis, the outermost layer of skin. This type of cancer is commonly associated with prolonged sun exposure and typically manifests as a shiny, pearly bump or a flat, scaly patch.

The high prevalence of basal cell carcinoma can be attributed to its association with ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun, which damages the skin cells over time. Although basal cell carcinoma rarely metastasizes or spreads to other parts of the body, it can cause local tissue damage if left untreated. In contrast, melanoma, while more aggressive and dangerous, is less common compared to basal cell carcinoma.
